Judging & Awards
Concours Judging
Each year, our distinguished panel of judges evaluates each motor vehicle
entered in the Concours for our Special Awards. Since our promise is to present
motor vehicles from the past 100 years, we have judging categories for each
decade and award 1st and 2nd in class.
Each vehicle entered into the main field or featured class at the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance is eligible to win awards of four various types.
In addition to the popular choice ‘peer judged’ class awards the entrants vote on in their respective classes, the Hagerty’s Youth Judges choices and the People’s Choice award, the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance has a panel of judges noted for their experience and expertise in the collector car and motorcycle world who are responsible for the awarding of special awards.
This panel uses “French style” subjective judging. The vehicles on display are considered for awards on the basis of significance, style, originality, presentation and condition - in that order.
The guidelines they use in reviewing vehicles for the major weight of the score, the Subjective Evaluation, are as follows:
- Historic significance
- Innovation
- Timeless style
- Originality
- Provenance
- Visual appeal
- Suitability of color scheme
A bonus is given in the judging in case of a tie between cars in a class to those which have participated in the Tour for Autism.

Hagerty
- Operation Ignite! Youth Judges
For the fourth year, the Fairfield County Concours d'Elegacne has teamed up
with Hagerty to bring the Operation Ignite! Youth Judging program to the event.
Through this program, kids age 8 to 15 are invited to get up close to show
vehicles, meet owners and learn the basics of judging. Participants will be
provided with official Youth Judging gear including a t-shirt, hat, lanyard and
scorecard.
Throughout the judging session, the Young Judges will be led by an adult
guide to pre-selected vehicles where they will have the opportunity to ask car
owners questions and learn fun facts about each vehicle. To conclude the
program, the Young Judges will present trophies to their top three finishers
during the Concours' official awards ceremony. Hagerty's Operation Ignite!
Connecting Kids and Cars youth initiative is designed to spark interest in
classic vehicles and the hobby among young people. The program held at the
Fairfield County Concours is one of more than 70 that will be hosted this year
throughout the United States, Canada and the U.K. Through these events, more
than 1,000 kids will have the opportunity to learn about classic cars while
enjoying the excitement and fun of the classic car hobby.
